Try HEC in hair gels as it will give a soft hold and a lovely hair feel without stickiness.
HEC is easily dissolved in cold or hot water to give crystal-clear solutions of varying viscosities. HEC is generally insoluble in organic solvents. It does require continuous stirring to prevent clumping. When the HEC is fully mixed, the solution will be clear with no undissolved particles. If not fully hydrated, HEC may eventually separate out of the formula.
Usage rate: 0.5 - 3% in the water phase.
Apply continuous mixing until hydrated, usually 30-60 minutes, to avoid separation
pH: 4.4 - 6.6 (0.5% solution)

Hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) is a versatile thickening agent perfect for creating hair gels with a soft, natural hold and silky feel—no sticky residue. This water-soluble polymer dissolves easily in cold or hot water to produce crystal-clear formulations with customizable viscosity. Mix at 0.5–3% in your water phase with continuous stirring for 30–60 minutes to ensure complete hydration and prevent clumping or separation. Once fully dissolved, you'll achieve a clear solution with no particles. HEC remains insoluble in organic solvents, making it ideal for water-based personal care products. Optimal pH range: 4.4–6.6 at 0.5% concentration.
